About UNEP and UNEP FI

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) leads global environmental efforts by setting the environmental agenda and promoting sustainable development within the UN system. The Resources & Markets Branch (UNEP-RMB) works to integrate environmental considerations into economic and financial policies. UNEP Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) partners with over 520 financial institutions to promote sustainability in finance.

Duties and Responsibilities

Interns will work with the UNEP FI Administration Team to support the Secretariat, including:

  • Assisting with Consultant and Intern Terms of Reference, application reviews, and submission of paperwork for approvals

  • Liaising with interns and consultants for onboarding (HR forms, ICT setup, etc.)

  • Maintaining HR files and supporting contract issuance and payment processes

  • Coordinating monthly deliverables and assisting with payroll processing in Umoja

  • Supporting invoice tracking and follow-up with member institutions

  • Organizing intern meetings, coaching sessions, and briefings

  • Performing additional administrative duties as needed, such as travel request processing

Strong administrative skills, HR knowledge, and proficiency in research, writing, and communication in English are required.

Qualifications / Special Skills

Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Enrolled in a graduate program (Master’s or higher)

  • In the final academic year of a Bachelor’s program or equivalent

  • Graduated within the last year

Ideal candidates are final year undergraduates or Master’s students in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related fields, or recent graduates. Proof of enrollment or graduation is required if selected. No professional work experience is mandatory, but relevant academic focus is essential.

Languages

  • Fluent oral and written English is required

  • Knowledge of another UN language, especially French, is desirable
