The World Trade Organization (WTO) has opened applications for its 2026 Internship Programme, offering a prestigious opportunity for post-graduate students from WTO member states and observer countries to gain first-hand experience at the WTO Secretariat in Geneva. This programme allows young professionals to immerse themselves in the global trading system, contribute to international policy processes, and work alongside leading experts shaping the world’s trade landscape.
About the 2026 WTO Internships
The 2026 intake features three internship tracks, each designed to support candidates at different academic and economic levels:
- WTO Internship Programme – Open to post-graduate students from all WTO member countries and economies in the process of accession.
- China LDCs and Accessions Programme – Dedicated to applicants from least-developed countries (LDCs) and those engaged in WTO accession processes.
- WTO Support Programme for Doctoral Studies – Targeted at PhD candidates conducting trade-related research.
Depending on the division they join, interns may work in fields such as international trade law, economics, statistics, trade policy, languages, communications, external relations, administration, and information management.
This internship offers a structured, high-impact learning experience. Participants engage directly with WTO professionals, gain insight into how global trade rules are negotiated, and contribute to ongoing analytical and policy projects. It is an excellent opportunity to deepen academic understanding, build technical skills, and gain exposure to the diplomatic processes that underpin international trade governance.
