This vacancy is not for one fixed job but for a consultant roster. Successful candidates may be called upon for short- or medium-term assignments as project needs arise.


Purpose of the Role

The consultant will support school connectivity projects under Giga, a global initiative aiming to connect every school in the world to the internet by 2030.

You will help ITU and UNICEF work with countries to plan, coordinate, and implement school connectivity activities—especially in developing and G77 countries.


Where the Role Sits

You will work under ITU’s Digital Networks & Environment Department (DNE) within BDT, collaborating closely with:

  • ITU technical and project teams
  • UNICEF’s Giga teams
  • Government and country stakeholders

Key Responsibilities

As a Country Engagement Consultant, you will mainly provide project coordination and operational support, including:

Project & Country Support

  • Support country engagement activities for school connectivity
  • Coordinate with ITU and UNICEF teams on ongoing project work
  • Prepare materials for publication and internal updates

Meetings & Workshops

  • Organize and support meetings and workshops
  • Draft agendas, invitation letters, and documentation
  • Coordinate with host countries and conference services
  • Take minutes and review meeting contributions

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track project timelines, deliverables, and deadlines
  • Identify risks or delays and propose solutions
  • Maintain project management tools (e.g. Trello)
  • Prepare weekly updates and progress reports

Documentation & Administration

  • Draft speeches, talking points, financial reports, and highlights
  • Support internal coordination and administrative tasks
  • Contribute to weekly BDT and Giga updates

Deliverables (Examples)

Deliverables vary by assignment but may include:

  • Process evaluations and improvement recommendations
  • Meeting agendas, minutes, and workshop documentation
  • Project reports, financial summaries, and updates
  • Weekly coordination emails and Trello updates
  • Communication materials for school connectivity initiatives

Required Profile

Education

  • Project or programme management experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with the UN system is an asset

Languages

  • Fluent English required
  • Knowledge of another UN language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian) is an advantage

Remuneration

  • USD 185 – 360 per working day
  • Rate depends on experience and assignment scope
