Are you a recent graduate interested in international relations and public diplomacy? The Delegation of the European Union to the African Union offers a funded traineeship of up to six months starting as early as November 2025 within its Political, Press and Information (PPI) Section. This opportunity allows you to gain hands-on experience in a diplomatic mission and contribute to the EU’s engagement with the African Union (AU).
Traineeship Overview
The PPI Section is central to political reporting, communication, and public diplomacy initiatives reflecting the EU-AU partnership. The selected trainee will assist the section with various tasks in communication, political analysis, and event coordination, providing valuable professional experience in a diplomatic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with political research and analysis on regional and continental issues, contributing to reports, briefings, and communication outputs.
- Support media engagement and stakeholder outreach by maintaining databases, drafting press releases, newsletters, and social media content.
- Create and edit visual communication materials such as videos, factsheets, infographics, and project fiches.
- Help organize internal and external events, including minute-taking and report drafting.
- Support coordination of the Team Europe Communication Community and the Delegation’s Communication Cluster by updating collaborative platforms and following up on actions.
Eligibility and Requirements
Who Can Apply:
- Only candidates currently residing in Ethiopia will be considered due to local health and security conditions.
- Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in either:
- Communication, Journalism, or related media fields, OR
- Political Science, International Relations, Law, Economics, or other Social Sciences with demonstrated communication experience.
Other Requirements:
- Maximum of one year of professional experience.
- Excellent command of English (written and spoken).
- Strong knowledge of and interest in EU-AU relations, African and European political affairs, and international cooperation.
- Demonstrated skills in drafting, research, and political analysis.
- Experience in audiovisual content creation and familiarity with design tools such as Canva or similar platforms.
- A proactive, hands-on approach with a willingness to learn and contribute creatively.

Important Information

- Selected trainees receive a monthly grant intended to cover basic living expenses.
- Trainees must cover travel, visa, insurance, and accommodation costs.
- The traineeship is subject to local legislation in Ethiopia and the candidate’s country of origin.
- EU Member State candidates must provide proof of pandemic-related medical coverage and repatriation, and hold valid visa/residence permits where required.
