Job Purpose
A vacancy exists for a role of Advisor: Environmental Management reporting to the Specialist Environment. The role forms part of the Environmental Stewardship function and plays an integral part in ensuring that RUL’S activities comply with applicable environmental legislation, Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) conditions, permits, licenses, internal standards and Environmental Management System requirements. The primary purpose of this role is to support RUL’s environmental stewardship and license to operate through the effective implementation and continual improvement of the Environmental Management System and the identification, assessment and management of environmental risks and impacts.
Key Performance Areas
- Adheres to all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.
- Implement and maintain RUL environmental performance standards, procedures, management plans and programmes.
- Identify, assess and support the effective management of environmental aspects, impacts and risks associated with operational activities, projects and proposed changes.
- Coordinate environmental monitoring programmes, analyse and interpret results, identify trends and report on environmental performance and emerging environmental risks.
- Coordinate and support environmental impact assessments, including direct, indirect and cumulative impacts associated with existing, proposed and future activities and projects.
- Maintain effective environmental information, records, databases and documentation systems to support monitoring, reporting, compliance assurance and informed decision-making.
- Monitor applicable environmental legislative, regulatory and other requirements and support actions necessary to maintain compliance with permits, licences, ECCs and other commitments.
- Conduct environmental inspections, audits and compliance assessments, identify deficiencies and improvement opportunities, and support implementation and close-out of corrective actions.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- A recognized Bachelor of Science at NQF Level 7 / 8 in Environmental Management or Natural Science, with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in mining, manufacturing, processing, or similar industrial environment working in an environmental management role.
OR
- A recognized three-year National Diploma at NQF Level 6 in Environmental Management or Natural Science, with a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience mining, manufacturing. processing, or similar industrial environment working in an environmental management role.
- A valid Code B driver’s license
- A Police Code of Conduct certificate not older than six months is required. A record will not automatically disqualify candidates.
Required Skills
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint) and SAP.
- Data analysis and interpretation; database and GIS management.
- Environmental impact management and project management.
- Mapping systems such as Google Earth, GIS (either QGIS and/or ArcGIS).
- Working knowledge of Environmental Management Systems and ISO 14001.
- Environmental auditing knowledge.
