CCU aims to recruit the following positions for a Mental Health project in Uganda. The Obstacle Race Against Stigma and Shame (ORASS) program is an learning sports programme combining mental health education and physical exercise for children and young people, with the aim of reducing mental health stigma and shame, and also providing safe and effective ways to manage good mental health. In four phases, ORASS will deliver a classroom and obstacle course based curriculum to 10-24 year olds in schools both in the Kyaka II refugee settlement and the wider Kyegegwa district.

Social worker/ Counselling Psychologist

Duties, objectives and competencies

  • Ensure mental and social support to mental health cases
  • Conduct assessment interviews
  • Carry out service mapping with a view to identifying relevant and functional services in the refugee and host communities.
  • Identify any mental cases of concern and register each case in accordance with the standard guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • In coordination with the project team, make timely internal and\or external referrals of any mental health cases identified to and coordinate appropriate response to the case with partner organisations and services.
  • Ensure proper follow up and monitor each individual referred mental case within the terms and timelines

· Co- facilitate trainings for staff and\or community as required, conduct awareness session in mental health related topics and support in distribute any related posters and

· Attend relevant community meetings; participate in relevant councils, roundtables, and committees

Requirements: Educational Background:

· A university degree in Psychology, Sociology, and other related studies. A higher education degree such as Master or other will be seen as an advantage.

1 -3 years of previous relevant experience

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with highly vulnerable groups
  • Able to work effectively within a team and/or individually
  • Well organized with strong time-management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
