The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is an international non-governmental organization founded in 1933. IRC works in 28 countries providing relief, protection, and resettlement assistance to refugees and displaced populations. IRC was registered in Uganda in mid-1998 and implements rehabilitation activities in the sectors of Child and Youth Protection and Development, Economic Recovery and Development, Health and Women Protection and Empowerment. IRC Uganda has a head office in Kampala with field offices in Kitgum, Moroto, Yumbe, Imvepi, Kyaka II and Kiryandongo.
Scope of Work
The Finance Assistant / Cashier will be a key member of the Imvepi/Rhino team and will contribute towards the achievement of the field’s finance objectives. Under the direction of the Finance Manager, the Finance Assistant will maintain the cash books and is responsible for the accounts payable functions of the department.
Duties and Responsibilities
•Ensure all Finance Documents/Templates are regularly updated and accessible by staff in Imvepi Office.
•Prepare cash transaction vouchers.
•Review transaction voucher forms for approval.
•Preparation of the prepaid monthly JVs for posting.
•Maintain petty cash account register and ensure petty cash reconciliation and replenish the petty cash when it reaches the minimum limit.
•Submit weekly and monthly petty cash summaries to the Finance Officer.
•Submit weekly and monthly petty cash summaries to the Field Coordinator and Finance Manager.
•Track all cash transactions/payments in a timely manner.
•Monitor invoices and cash payment request vouchers.
•Process all cash and bank payment as per the approval received.
•Run name verification reports for Mobile Money payment and submit to Finance Officer for review.
•Pay cash to the payee in Imvepi Office.
•Prepare cheque for approval and payment to the payee.
•Follow up cash in transit and transfers.
•Act as a cashier.
•Make field payments.
•Ensure IRC policies and procedures are respected in all the cash transactions.
•Liaise with the Finance Manager and Finance Officer in Kampala on cash transfers and obtain monthly cash projections.
•Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in either Business Administration (Accounting), Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) or its equivalent.
• Professional qualification such as ACCA/CPA is an added advantage.
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience in financial management, administrative services Treasury/Cashier Services or related area is required.
• Demonstrated expertise performing book-keeping function in an online accounting software, preferably Dynamics 365, Sun System or QuickBooks.
• Must be skilled in Microsoft Office package with at least an intermediate ability in Excel.
