UNICEF is seeking an international intern for a six-month position with its Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) section in Cameroon. This role is a unique opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain practical experience in the humanitarian and development sector.
About the Role and Team
The WASH section in Cameroon is currently understaffed and is involved in numerous humanitarian and system-strengthening projects. The team works to ensure that children have sustained access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene services. The intern will provide crucial support to these efforts, helping to develop and implement sector-specific programs that align with UNICEF’s global strategies. The intern will also assist in providing technical and operational support to the government of Cameroon and other partners to improve overall sector performance and bring about transformative results for children.
Key Responsibilities
The intern will be involved in a wide range of activities, including:
- Program Planning & Implementation: Contributing to the development of program goals, strategies, and results-based planning. Providing technical and operational support throughout all stages of program processes.
- Monitoring & Evaluation: Participating in monitoring and evaluation exercises, collecting and analyzing data, and preparing reports for management, donors, and partners.
- Knowledge Management: Identifying, synthesizing, and sharing lessons learned. Researching and reporting on best practices for developing knowledge products.
- Capacity Building: Delivering training and participating in initiatives to enhance the competencies of stakeholders.
- Resource Management: Monitoring the use of program resources and ensuring compliance with organizational rules and regulations.
The intern will be expected to work Monday to Thursday from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM and on Fridays from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Eligibility and Application
To be eligible for this internship, candidates must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program, or have graduated within the past two years. The required fields of study include:
- Civil or Environmental Engineering
- Water Resources Management
- Public Health
- Environmental Science
- Climate Science
- Climate Finance
Fluency in either English or French is also required.
Remuneration and Evaluation
The selected intern will receive a monthly stipend. The intern will be provided with a workspace, a computer, and internet access. The internship’s duration is 6 months.
The internship will be evaluated based on a series of monthly reports produced by the intern. These reports will highlight the intern’s interventions and tasks completed. The final internship certificate will be awarded upon a successful overall assessment based on these reports.
