DESCRIPTION
The Project/ Liaison Officer position will support the effective and successful implementation of the AWF field based projects in Mburo – Uganda. The Project Officer will work at the landscape level with Uganda Wildlife Authority, National Forestry Authority and any other government of Uganda institutions on one hand and communities, the private sector and other Civil Society Organisations on the other hand in addressing threats to conservation and promoting alternative livelihoods for communities adjacent to Protected Areas. The Project Officer will be based in Mburo landscape and will report to the Program Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide project monitoring and management support to Program Manager
- Lead the implementation of targeted actions within the annual work plan to ensure the outputs are met and within the allowable budget
- Assist in and support the preparation and submission of annual work plans guided by baseline and field information and in collaboration with stakeholders for approval
- Undertake regular visits to project sites to oversee the implementation and monitoring of the project and document progress
- Facilitate the production and dissemination of communications material to partners
- Mobilize, sensitize, organize and strengthen the capacity of local community to engage in community conservation efforts
- Work with the respective Uganda Wildlife Authority and National Forestry Authority leadership at the landscape level to fulfil the project objectives.
- Communicate and develop relationships with stakeholders, partners, and Government authorities
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans, and reports for internal and external purposes
- Assist the Program Manager to monitor and support implementation of work / business plans
- Monitor and evaluate project progress and solve problems that may arise
- Represent AWF at meetings, conferences, workshops, and other official functions
- Responsible for all AWF property in the field
- Responsible for financial management and reporting at the landscape level
- Provides oversight to the driver attached to the landscape
- Such other tasks as may reasonably be required by the Program Manager
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in project management, natural resources management, agribusiness/ agriculture, community development and related subjects with field experience in planning, implementation and monitoring programmes is preferable
- At least 5 years’ experience working with communities in the field
- Experience working in a donor funded organization
- Experience in Project Management
- Experience and competency in implementing participatory techniques for mobilizing rural communities
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Respect for communities, other organizations and stakeholders
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
- Report writing experience
- Fluency in English required. Knowledge of local languages desired
- Willingness and ability to live in remote locations
- Good computer and internet skills
- Interest in Conservation
