The Opportunity
Digital technology is transforming how development is approached globally. Since launching its first Digital Strategy in 2019, UNDP has been on an ambitious journey to harness digital tools for development. The current UNDP Digital Strategy 2022-2025 envisions a world where digital is a force for empowerment—for both people and the planet.The Chief Digital Office (CDO) leads this transformation, embedding digital technology into development projects, supporting governments to build inclusive digital ecosystems, and transforming the organization itself.
Internship Areas & Responsibilities
As a Digital Transformation Intern, you may contribute to one or more of the following domains:
1. Digital Transformation: Inclusive Digital Ecosystems
- Shape local digital ecosystems with a rights-based, inclusive approach.
- Support implementation of equitable and secure digital infrastructure.
- Conduct research and content review on topics like digital inclusion, AI, and ethical technology.
- Manage knowledge sharing and advocacy content.
2. Digital Transformation: Country Office Support & Capacity Building
- Assess countries’ digital and AI readiness.
- Assist with the development of national digital, data, and AI strategies.
- Support capacity-building resources and programmatic initiatives around AI and Data.
- Help deliver digital-skills training to UNDP personnel.
3. Digital Transformation: Digital Strategy Development & Implementation
- Research and synthesize key digital topics for UNDP leadership.
- Manage and update digital guides and knowledge platforms.
- Support strategic engagements and analyze Digital Strategy implementation.
4. Business Operations
- Assist with operations, procurement, finance, and compliance.
- Organize meetings, workshops, and events.
- Identify and address operational inefficiencies.
5. Thought Leadership & Partnerships
- Research and engage potential partners (tech companies, foundations, NGOs).
- Draft communication materials, proposals, pitch decks, and reports.
- Support UN-level and multilateral engagements, including event organization.
6. Product Design & Management
- Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of digital products and AI tools.
- Work with software teams, conduct user testing, and support product launches.
7. UNDP Transformation: Change Management
- Manage Communities of Practice and facilitate knowledge exchange.
- Track digital transformation progress and contribute to internal communications.
Who Should Apply?
Eligibility Criteria:
- Currently enrolled in a graduate program (second university degree or higher),
- OR in the final academic year of a first university degree (minimum bachelor’s level),
- OR recent graduates (within one year of graduation).
Desirable:
- Interest or experience in digital transformation, technology, innovation, or related areas.
